How our ads work

• Ads appear on the Jobs, Deals, Events and Classifieds boards and in the News feed, never directly next to a Police & courts item. There are never ads on Obituaries.
• Ads aren’t targeted. Everyone who opens a board sees the same ads, taking equal turns through the day. We don’t use cookies or anything about the reader to pick an ad.
• Every ad is labeled “Sponsored,” and a Featured post is labeled “Featured · Paid.”
• An ad is one still image with a short headline and text, or words alone, in standard sizes (below). You can also send a finished banner for a size. No pop-ups, video, sound or ads that follow you down the page.
• A person reviews every ad before it runs.
• Ads never change what news we show or how we report it.

Ad sizes and where they run

We use standard ad sizes, so a banner you already have may fit. Each ad is built from your picture, headline, short text and button, laid out for the size; or send a finished banner for a size. These previews use a made-up business.

Sending your ad

Once we’ve agreed on a spot, send your image and words with the upload form. You’ll need the reference number you get when you send the form below. The upload page explains the image size, word limits and which links are allowed, and shows your ad in every size before you send it, and our Advertising Policy covers what we accept.
